XMEG System Documentation: Introduction

XMEG stands for 'XML Metadata Editor/Generator'. It enables users to:
- View different multimedia resources (text, image, audio, video, 3d objects).
- Attach descriptive metadata about resources.
- Attach both written and spoken annotations as well as view annotations added by other people.
- Define user profiles describing different users of the system.
- Define specific rights requirements that restrict access (based on users' profiles) to secret or sacred resources.
- Specify specific 'tribal care' constraints for the preservation/protection of sensitive objects.
- Provides a mechanism for tradition owners to customise the software to comply with their particular collections, laws and/or protocols.
XMEG uses only free and/or open source software and is available free upon request from the Indigenous Knowledge Management project website.
