XSBR System Documentation: Introduction

XSBR stands for 'XML Search, Browse & Retrieval'. It provides a web-based search interface to the data generated by the XML Metadata Editor/Generator application. It enables users to:
- View different multimedia resources (text, image, audio, video).
- Attach descriptive metadata about resources.
- Attach both written and spoken annotations as well as view annotations added by other people.
- Define user profiles describing different users of the system.
- Define specific rights requirements that restrict access (based on users' profiles) to secret or sacred resources.
- Specify specific 'tribal care' contraints for the preservation/protection of sensitive objects.
- Provides a mechanisn for tradition owners to customise the software to comply with their particular collections, laws and/or protocols.
This system documentation consists of three main sections:
A functional overview of the system,
an operation guide which includes installation information and
a user manual.
